Meet the Italian—a big, juicy burger that’s bursting with flavour. This might just be the best Italian burger recipe you’ll ever try, packed to the brim with taste and easily one of the best burgers I’ve ever made.
Italians are famous for their pizzas, so I was inspired to create an Italian-style burger. Growing up in an Italian family, I wanted to bring the flavours I love into a burger. It’s made with beef mince and Italian sausage, topped with gooey melted mozzarella and rich pasta sauce, all tucked into a sourdough bun with zesty aioli and fresh rocket.
One thing I love about this recipe is that it is really easy to make. It takes less than 30 minutes to make these delicious burgers. You can prepare the ingredients in advance to save you time. Great for when you need to feed a hungry family in a hurry. So, if you love burgers, then you'll love the Italian Burger.
Ingredients you'll need for the Best Italian Burger Recipe
- Meat pattie: Made with 100% mince beef and Italian sausage. I used casalinga sausages.
- Aioli: Adds a creamy, garlicky flavour.
- Mozzarella: It melts well, provides a mild, creamy, and slightly sweet flavour that complements savoury meat, and adds a desirable stretchy texture.
- Sourdough rolls: Soft, fluffy and tangy rolls. You can also use white crusty rolls or wholemeal rolls.
- Burger sauce: Use a good quality pasta sauce, homemade or from a jar. I used Barilla Napoletana sauce with a touch of ground chilli powder for that zingy flavour.
- Rocket: Also known as arugula or roquette, is a leafy green vegetable with a peppery, slightly spicy, mustard-like flavour, perfect for the Italian Burger.
How long to cook a burger patty
- Medium-Rare (warm, pink center): 6 minutes total (3 minutes per side)
- Medium (fully pink center): 7 to 8 minutes total (4 minutes per side)
- Well-Done (no pink): 10 minutes total (5 minutes per side)
A tip that I have leave you with Never Press Down: Once the patty is cooking, resist the urge to squish it with a spatula. Pressing the burger releases all those glorious juices, causing the patty to dry out.
