Getting greens on the table has never been simpler, or more delicious. This easy sauteed broccolini with garlic delivers a punch of bold flavour in every bite, making it a healthy side dish that even the pickiest eaters will devour.
What is Broccolini
Broccolini is a veggie that looks like a long, skinny version of regular broccoli. It’s actually a mix of regular broccoli and Chinese broccoli. People call it "baby broccoli" because its stems are longer, thinner, and sweeter, and you can eat the whole thing from top to bottom. I love regular broccoli, but I must say I absolutely love broccolini, especially broccolini with garlic.
Why Broccolini is great for cooking
- No waste: You don't have to throw away tough, thick stalks.
- Fast cooking: Because it's thin, it cooks in about 5 to 10 minutes.
- Sweet flavor: It has a milder, sweeter, and less bitter taste than traditional broccoli.
Ingredients you'll need for Easy Sauteed Broccolini with Garlic
You don't need a lot of ingredients for making broccolini with garlic. That's why I love this recipe. It's so tasty.
- Broccolini: More tender than standard broccoli, meaning it sautés quickly without losing its satisfying "bite".
- Extra virgin olive oil: Adds a rich, fruity, and slightly peppery background flavor that coats the vegetable beautifully.
- Garlic: It naturally cuts through the earthiness of the broccolini, adding bold, savoury notes that elevate it from a basic green side dish to a flavourful component of a meal.
How to cook Sautéed Broccolini with Garlic
- Trim the broccolini. Rinse the Broccolini under cool water and shake off the excess water. Trim about 1/2-inch off the bottom of the Broccolini stems.
- Heat: Add 3 tablespoons of water and a 1/4 teaspoon of salt to a pan and bring the water to a boil.
- Steam: Then add the broccolini to the pan and steam for 3-5 minutes until the broccolini is tender and a vibrant green colour.
- Sauté: Lower the heat to medium, add the olive oil and garlic. Toss everything together and sauté for about 1 to 2 minutes, ensuring the garlic softens and becomes fragrant but does not burn.
- Serve: Remove sautéed broccolini from heat and serve.
